Sherlock Holmes (2009) - A Guy Ritchie version (+70) - Movie review

This is a English language movie, released in 2010 in India, Directed by Guy Ritchie, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in leading roles.

This review is strictly my point of view and many may not agree with me, I being a Guy Ritchie fan, I do admire most of the things he brings on screen, so keep that in your mind before my recommendation.

This version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters, where the bromance of Doctor and Holmes continues with a stylish narration of Guy Ritchie. Guy Ritchie's narrative style is not for everyone, it contains a bit more of action and fantasy substances that will not be accepted openly by everyone.

People may feel that the action sequences are opposite of what the authentic characters possess, but what I felt is in this version Guy Ritchie tried to create the action sequences in such a way that it was mentally calculated and not just physical capacity of Sherlock Holmes.

The editing, camera, and the technical team of Guy Ritchie done a much-appreciated job that you will cherish the visuals, and a very supportive music by Hans Zimmer makes the experience much better.

And of course, you will enjoy Robert Downey Jr.'s charisma and also the chemistry between himself and Jude Law.

I rate this a 70%.

WATCH IT for a stylish version of Sherlock Holmes, especially if you like Guy Ritchie narration. SKIP IT if you have read all the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books and expect justice to be done to these characters.

Its available to stream on Netflix, Disney Hotstar and HOOQ (As on April, 2020) with English subtitles.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa - A beautiful GVM love story (+68%) - Movie review

--> This is a Tamil language movie, released in 2010, directed by Goutham V Menon (GVM), starring Silambarasan and Trisha in the leading roles.  A simple love story told in a Goutham Menon style, with all ingredients of his usual recipe followed like a half spoon of Tanglish, half spoon of over the top romance, a pinch of romantic cringe, four spoons of dream song sequences, one-third spoon of length of the movie, a bit of heartbreak and two spoons of amazing locations.  Of course, this movie will have a cult following as well as financial success at the box office, critics, as well as viewers, will like this movie because it is fresh for its time. Good Alappuzha locations (Kudos to the cinematographer) and amazing music by the legendary AR Rahman.  Its a sweet emotional love-drama with heartbreaks and a different ending to the movie. Sometimes I feel the movie is dragged but in some places, I felt it is necessary.  Simbhu has done a good ...

Manasaare - A sweet, witty typical Yograj Bhat love story (+67%) - Movie review (Short)

This is a Kannada language movie released in 2009, Directed by Yograj Bhat and starring Digant and Aindrita Ray in leading roles.  This was the time when the Yograj Bhat used to make witty simple movies that would touch our hearts, and this being one of them, I would like to see this Yograj Bhat-Pawan Kumar combination more often.  A simple, witty, and quirky movie with songs penned by the greats like Yograj Bhat himself, Pawan Kumar, and Jayant Kaikini. The combination was best, locals were simple, mesmerizing songs, a simple love story told in such a way that the viewers are glued to the seats without any thrilling elements being in the movie.  Good performances by then young actors like Digant and Aindrita (Now married in real life), also the supporting actors have done a tremendous job. The experience of Director Yograj Bhat was easily visible in all the scenes. A good camera work by Hegde capturing beautiful locals even in dream sequences....
